See you on Market Day! *********************************************************************** The Australian National University's Flying Disc Club was created to promote and organise flying disc sports, particularly Ultimate, amongst members of the ANU campus, as well in the region as a whole. The name-the-club competition held during orientation week '98 came up with a few pretty useless and boring names for the club but one utterly brilliant, inspired, insightful, and dare we say - appropriate - name: ANUDE, the ANU Disc Enthusiasts. Its what we are...! Since the setting up of the club, it has developed from a bunch of people playing around with a disc on a friday afternoon in the clothes they wore to work, to having hosted the very successful Inaugural Australian Universities Ultimate Championships in 1998. This was the high-point of the year for the club, both in terms of competition (we came third!!!) and organisational co-operation within the club. The club is closely linked with recently established ACTUA (ACT Ultimate Association) which has established a regular mid-week evening ultimate league in canberra. We look forward to the continued growth of flying disc sports both at the ANU, and in Canberra as a whole as time goes by. ANU staff and students are encouraged to participated in a lunchtime Intramural Ultimate league, active for the past two years. Organised by the ANU Sports Union the competition was won by the Disc Drivers (a computer science based team) in 1998, and FullyWorked... (a combined comp sci and sports union team) in 1999. The University of Canberra has had an Ultimate Frisbee Club. We will update info on this group if and when info comes to hand. ANUDE has participated in both of the Australian University Ultimate Championships that have been held. Short summaries can be seen here 1998 1999 2000 For specific information on Ultimate at Australian Universities or for help in establishing a university Ultimate club, contact Martin Laird, the AFDA Universities Co-ordinator. Club members also regularly participate in interstate tournaments. We have had good turnouts at the local Tournament Diskapital (held in January). Other popular attractions for the crew are the Terrigal Towel (march), Nationals (april), University Games (july), and the Melbourne Hat (dec). |
