Professional Interests

  • Open Source Software and Open Standards

  • There is no other way to ensure the ability to preserve unfettered information access for future generations. Inability to access information due to platform changes, software changes, and arbitrary industry decisions is unacceptable to society. The long-term cost of restrictive industry practices is excessive!

  • Educate business owners and consumers in the real long-term cost of proprietary closed source software.

  • Closed source software deprives society of the benefits of peer review. This means that closed source software defects can, and do, attract undesirable elements who delight in exploitation and gives them breathing time they can use to do damage to vulnerable systems and data. Peer-review minimizes the window of opportunity afforded to such exploitation and mal-intent. Obscurity is no substitute for security and peer review.

  • Remind content owners that all business is based on trust.

  • Open Source and Open Standards level the playing-field, forcing IT business to focus on delivery of services that satisfy customer wants and needs. Consumers distrust much of the IT industry, Open Source, Open Standards, and Open Peer Review provides a means of restoring consumer trust.
